While we haven't had the chance to test fit it on a Sprinter van like yours we do know that you'd be able to open the rear door at least partially with bikes loaded. In order for a bike rack to be rated for the rougher ride associated with the back of an RV (like what the # S64025 would install on), it has to be reinforced appropriately and folding mechanisms are known for being a weak point on bike racks. So the reason for that requirement of the hitch is because of how the hitch will normally be used.

There are some potential problems with loading a folding tandem bike onto a trunk mount bike rack. First, the bike would have to weight 35 pounds or less. Second, you would have to use an adapter bar like # TH982XT, between the seat posts. The distance between the seat posts could not be more than 31-1/2 inches for the adapter to fit.
